“Nothing has been more important to the history of our planet than the heat trapped inside it. No force on Earth is more dramatic, more destructive or more violent than volcanoes, but they’re so much more than just a force of destruction, they’re the life force of our planet. Quite simply, without volcanoes I wouldn’t be here and neither would you.”

Earth Power of the Planet (2007) BBC
My body of work Fundamental Force explores the life cycle of volcanoes and their continuous impact on the Earth and life on Earth.
For years I have been fascinated by volcanoes. They are a captivating reminder of the very essence of our planet.
These photographs feature Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano and the geothermal hot spots of New Zealand’s Taupo Volcanic Zone.
The images explore the textures and details of one of the planet’s most fundamental forces and their ability to destroy and create throughout their life cycle – from birth to extinction.
Through this series the viewer is given the opportunity to explore the connections between volcanoes and the Earth’s creation, its continual transformation and our place among it all.
